LumberJax training camp opens

The Portland LumberJax signed Tyler Heavenor to a one-year contract, the team announced this week. Along with a conditional first round NLL 2008 Entry Draft pick, the Jax acquired Heavenor through a trade with the New York Titans on September 25, 2006. Portland traded Casey Powell and Greg Peyser to New York in exchange for the Victoria B.C. native."I think Tyler will give us more offensive punch on the right side and on the power play," said Head Coach and General Manager Derek Keenan. "He's an excellent perimeter shooter and has the skills to play the game in tight quarters."
The Titans had received Heavenor in the 2006 Expansion Draft after the Edmonton Rush left him unprotected. Last season with the Rush, he racked up 14 points off of six goals and eight assists and also collected 24 looseballs in eight games.
Heavoner graduated in 2003 from 's Adelphi University where he received New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) first-team honors as well as being named a 2002 First-Team All-American.
The five-foot-eight-inch, 200-pound forward led the Panthers to a 2001 NCAA Division II Championship as the team's captain and leading goal scorer. He also competed for the Victoria Shamrocks in Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) summer league and wore the red maple leaf for the silver medal-winning Canadian National team at the 1999 International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) Under-19 World Field Lacrosse Championship in Adelaide, Australia.
