ALL-STAR SKILLS COMPETITION RESULTS

Sims grabs fastest shot crown from Grant with 102 mph blast

The finals of the 2007 All-Star Skills Competition took place on Saturday at halftime of the NLL All-Star Game. Colorado's Josh Sims (102 mph) edged Rochester's John Grant (100 mph) in the finals of the fastest shot competition. Philadelphia's Geoff Snider defeated Calgary's Tracey Kelusky in the accuracy final, while Rochester's Steve Toll defeated Colorado's John Gallant in the agility final. New York's Casey Powell and Arizona's Dan Dawson were co-champions of the freestyle final.

Grant, who was defending his fastest shot title from last season, also participated in the freestyle competition, along with New York's Ryan Boyle, Buffalo's Mark Steenhuis, and San Jose's Colin Doyle.

The preliminary rounds of the skills competition took place this afternoon at 3:00 pm. Every player on each all-star team participated in at least one competition. The finalists in each of the four contests advanced to the final round which took place at halftime of the All-Star Game.

The four skills competition are:

Agility - This contest is new this season. Each player will race from one end of the floor to the other, around the three cones, scoop up a loose ball, and sprint back to the goal. The player to score on the empty net with the fastest time will be declared the winner. The players may not shoot until they cross the restraining line closest to the goal.

Eastern Division: Steve Toll, Rochester Knighthawks (winner)
Western Division: John Gallant, Colorado Mammoth (runner-up)

Fastest shot - Each player will take two shots on an open net. The fastest of the two shots will count, measured in miles-per-hour. The ball MUST go in the net to count.

Eastern Division: John Grant, Rochester Knighthawks (runner-up, 100 mph)

Accuracy - Each player will take three shots at three targets on the goal. Each target may only be hit once, and the ball must go completely through the target and into the goal to count. The player who hits the most targets from the East Division will compete against the player who hits the most targets in the West Division in the final. Whoever hits the most targets in the final will be declared the winner.

Trick shot - Each player will get creative taking two shots on goal. The more creative the better. The players will attempt to impress the fans and will be judged on the crowd's applause.
