MINNESOTA INKS CRAIG POINT

Swarm beefs up roster with seven player signings

11/12/2007

The Minnesota Swarm signed seven players on Monday, including 21-year-old forward Craig Point, the third overall selection in the 2007 NLL Entry Draft. Point scored 11 goals to lead the Iroquois Nationals in scoring at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships this past May.

The Swarm also signed forwards Colin Achenbach and Traivs Bland, defensemen Nick Inch, Reggie Van Velzen and Isaiah Kicknosway, and goaltender Kevin Croswell.

Point, a native of Ohsweken, Ontario, led Onondaga Community College to a National Championship in 2006. He was also a member of the Minto Cup Champion Six Nation Arrows this year.

Achenbach, 24, a native of Burnsville, Minnesota, is an Apple Valley High School graduate and becomes the first Minnesota-born player signed to a contract by the Swarm. He wrapped up his collegiate lacrosse career at C.W. Post following a two-year sting at Pace University. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound attacker was a two-time All-American and landed on the NYCAC First Team as a senior after leading the nationally-ranked Panthers with 50 points (30 goals, 20 assists) in 11 games.

Croswell, 22, compiled a 4-7 record and a 9.96 goals against average in 14 appearances this summer in Langley, BC. The Peterborough, Ontario native originally selected in the third round (31st overall) by the Swarm in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft.

Inch, 22, scored two goals and one assist playing this summer in his hometown of Kitchener-Waterloo. He was acquired in a trade with Toronto in September of 2006.

Van Velzen, 24, hails from St. Catherines, Ontario. He was named Second Team All-Canadian in 2006 playing at Brock University.

Bland, 21, is from Georgetown, Ontario. He last played in Mississuaga, Ontario.

Kicknosway, 22, was a Second Team All-America selection in Onondoga last season. He helped lead Onondoga to their second consecutive undefeated season and a National Championship in 2007.
