Iannucci's five goals lead Philadelphia to 2-0 start

The Philadelphia Wings outscored the Rochester Knighthawks 6-1 in the third quarter and held off the defending champs to win, 15-14, at Wachovia Center on Friday night. Athan Iannucci led Philadelphia with five goals, while veteran Jake Bergey added four. Starting goaltender Rob Blasdell improved to 2-0 with the Wings.Philadelphia jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind a pair of goals from Iannucci and a sore from Jamie Rooney. Rochester tied the game, but the Wings always maintained an edge.
Rookie forward Merrick Thomson added three goals, while Rooey had two.
John Grant led the Knighthawks with a breakout five-goal night, including a score on a penalty shot in the second quarter. Shawn Williams and Shawn Evans had two goals apiece.
Pat O'Toole made 52 saves in the loss. With the loss, Rochester falls to 1-2, which equals the same number of games they lost last season when they posted a 14-2 record.
Philadelphia (2-0) returns to action on Saturday, January 26 as they host the Buffalo Bandits at 7:30pm. Rochester (1-2) returns home to host the Minnesota Swarm on Saturday, January 26 at 8:05pm.
