Langtry's nine-goal effort not enough for Colorado
03/20/2008
The Portland LumberJax defeated the Colorado Mammoth, 16-15, at Rose Garden on Thursday. Brian Langtry scored nine goals, but Dan Dawson and the Jax offense matched him goal-for-goal to win the shootout.Dawson finished with four goals, while Peter Morgan scored three. Derek Malawsky, Cory Conway and Scott Stewart added two goals apiece, but it was 18-year-old Peter Jacobs' single with 1:06 left in regulation that proved to be the game-winner.
Malawsky added seven assists for the Jax. Dallas Eliuk (37:00, 9 goals against) was pulled in the third quarter for Matt King (23:00, 6 goals against). King was credited with the win.
Langtry's nine goals are an NLL season-high, and one short of the league record (10, achieved by Gary Gait and Paul Gait in 1999 and 1994, respectively). It also marks the most goals scored by an individual player in one game since John Grant matched the feat in Rochester's 22-18 win over New York on January 27, 2007.
Gavin Prout and Jordan Cornfield scored two goals apiece for Colorado. Gee Nash allowed all 16 goals in the loss.
Portland (4-7) is off next week before they meet the San Jose Stealth in a home-and-home series, kicking off on Saturday, April 5th at Rose Garden.
Colorado (6-4) is off next week before they host the defending champion Rochester Knighthawks at Pepsi Center on Thursday, April 3rd.
