NLL GIRL OF THE WEEK - ASHLEY
First-year member of Shamrox dance team studying business
03/24/2008
Ashley, a first-year member of the Chicago Shamrox Dance Team, is currently double-majoring in Business Administration and Communications at Elmhurst College. The Lombard, Illinois native has been dancing since she was 12, and keeps busy by dancing for Jade Productions, Elmhurst's Pom Squad, as well as teaching hip hop classes for ages 13-25 for the last two years at a local dance studio. However, between her taking a heavier courseload than the average student, as well as her rigorous dance responsibilities, Ashley has recently had to cut back on her teaching.
"I'm one of the busiest people you will ever meet," said Ashley. "I absolutely loved teaching. I'm hoping once the season winds down and I'm on break, I can get away from it all a little this summer."
Ashley was recently promoted to Team Captain of the Pom Squad, which dances at Elmhurst's football and basketball games.
"We're pretty self-reliant," added Ashley. "Our captains are our coaches. It's a lot of fun."
Ashley is very active in her community, previously working for PADS for the homeless as well as the big brother/big sister program. She is also spearheading the involvement of the Pom Squad's involvement in Elmhurst's Walk for Hope in May.
