NLL GIRL OF THE WEEK - BROOKE

New Jersey native digs California scenery

03/31/2008

Brooke, a native of East Brunswick, NJ, is currently a Business Organization and Management student at San Jose State University. The first-year member of the San Jose Stealth's Spy Girls moved to the West Coast for a change in scenery, and she's certainly taken full advantage of the sunny California coast.

"It's a very beautiful place to live," said Brooke. "I can drive 30 minutes and see some of the most beautiful beaches I've seen in my life."

Brooke received a full scholarship from the NJ Center of Dance, where she taught classes in everything from jazz to hip-hop and danced competitively. She had the opportunity to teach children ages 5 thru 17, before attending Virginia Commonwealth University as a Dance Major. However, a lingering back injury forced her to drop out after just one semester.

"The intensity of dancing 6-8 hours a day didn't help," added Brooke.

After transferring to San Jose State, she found her new calling after accepting a part-time job as an Operations Manager at Workplace Health Solutions. While dance may not be her career-path anymore, Brooke's first audition with the Spy Girls marked a return to her passion.

"I took three years off dancing," she said. "I'd like to stick with it and dance professionally as long as I really can. I love it, it's the number-one thing that makes me happy."

Her move to California has also afforded her the opportunity to help promote a sport that is still new to the West Coast. Brooke's favorite player is Stealth starting goaltender Anthony Cosmo, since she played goalie early in her youth-soccer career.

"Lacrosse was bigger than football at my high school. It's such an intense, fast-paced sport. I'm always screaming on the sidelines, people stare at me because I'm so into the game."
