07/16/2008
The San Jose Stealth have announced they have relieved Walt Christianson on Wednesday. Christianson had served as Head Coach of the Stealth for three seasons, achieving a 23-25 record during that span. The team plans to announce Christianson's replacement later this week."I was committed to coaching the Stealth through the 2009 season, but I respect the team management's decision," said Christianson. "I have truly enjoyed my three years in San Jose, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the players coaches, fans, ownership group and management."
Christianson took over a club that went 4-12 in 2005, improving them slightly to 5-11 in 2006 before posting consecutive 9-7 seasons. He also led the Stealth to two playoff berths, including the West Division Final in 2007, and earned a spot as an Assistant Coach for the West Division All-Stars in 2008.
"Walt is a friend, so decisions like this for our organization are not easy," said Stealth President/General Manager Johnny Mouradian. "We have a great deal of respect for Walt and the amount of time and energy he invested in the Stealth. We thank him and his family."
The Victoria native previously served as an Assistant Coach for the Calgary Roughnecks (2001-2003) and Colorado Mammoth (2003-2005).
