BOSTON ADDS 12 IN EXPANSION DRAFT

Blazers select Poulin, Belisle, Lyons, Laverty and eight others

07/24/2008

The Boston Blazers selected Mike Poulin first overall in their Expansion Draft today. The 22-year-old goaltender has served as Bob Watson's backup in Toronto for the last two seasons.

Mitch Belisle, who impressed in his rookie season with the New York Titans, was plucked with the second overall selection. The 22-year-old defender, who played his college ball at Cornell University, appeared in 12 games last season.

The Blazers selected one player from each of the twelve returning team's unprotected lists, which were released earlier this month. The twelve players join All-Star forward Dan Dawson and veteran forward Peter Veltman, who were acquired by Boston in June.

Clubs were given the option of either protecting one goaltender and 13 of its runners (forwards or defensemen), or two goaltenders and 10 runners.
