12/06/2008

The Philadelphia Wings topped the New York Titans, 13-11, in preseason action at The Center Circle in Rahway, NJ on Saturday. Kyle Wailes and Drew Westervelt led the Wings with three goals apiece, while Rob Blasdell earned the win in goal, allowing just 10 goals in 55 minutes of action.

The Titans controlled the game early, jumping out to a 4-3 lead after the first quarter and an 8-6 lead at the half. However, Blasdell and the Wings defense held New York scoreless in the third quarter, while the offense rattled off four goals to take a 10-6 lead.

With a 12-10 lead late in the game, rookie Mickey Hover replaced Blasdell and played the final five minutes in goal, allowing New York to cut the lead to one. Philadelphia was able to run out the clock, and Taylor Wray scored an empty-netter with two seconds left to secure the win.

Merrick Thomson chipped in two goals, while Kyle Sweeney, AJ Shannon, Geoff Snider, Conor Ford and Wray added singles for Philadelphia.

Rookie Marc Burton led the Titans with three goals, while Jordan Hall, Mike McLellan, and former Wing Jamie Rooney each scored twice. Pat Maddalena and Pat Merrill each added singles.

Matt Vinc played most of the first half in goal for New York, while Erik Miller, Kurtis Wagar and Angus Dineley each played approximately 10 minutes apiece.
