Patterson leads Swarm over defending champs in preseason action

12/13/2008

The Minnesota Swarm topped the Buffalo Bandits in a preseason game at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Six Nations on Saturday. Buffalo led 4-0 after the first quarter, but Minnesota rallied with nine consecutive goals in the second, taking a 9-8 lead into the half and never looking back. Nick Patterson played the entire 60 minutes in goal for the Swarm, allowing just 11 goals against one of the league's most dangerous offenses.

Kevin Ross led the Swarm offensively with three goals, while Ohio State product Kevin Buchanan scored twice. Newcomer Kevin Fines added a single for Minnesota.

Tempers flared late in the game when Jon Sullivan and Brandon Francis mixed it up, and were assessed major penalties for fighting.

Ken Montour started in goal for Buffalo, while Findley Wilson and Mike Thompson also saw action.

John Tavares and Mark Steenhuis led the Bandits offensively.
