02/25/2009

Boston's Dan Dawson was named Overall Player of the Week for the first time this season. Dawson had a hand in 19 of the Blazers 27 goals this weekend, scoring four goals and 15 assists, and scooping six loose balls. The Blazers secured second-place in the East by winning a pair of inter-division road games, defeating the Minnesota Swarm, 16-12, on Friday, and beating the first-place Calgary Roughnecks, 11-10, on Sunday.

Buffalo's Mark Steenhuis was named Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. Steenhuis scored eight goals and two assists to lead the Bandits dramatic comeback over the Toronto Rock on Friday. The 28-year-old right-hander scored a natural hat-trick in the closing minutes, including the game-tying goal in the final minute, and the overtime game-winner.

Boston's Jon Harnett was named Defensive Player of the Week. The 20-year-old rookie defenseman is the first non-goaltender to win the award this year. Harnett scooped 25 loose balls and chipped in with two assists the Blazers weekend sweep. He has appeared in all nine games for Boston.

Rochester's Bobby McBride was named Transition Player of the Week. McBride made his season-debut to the tune of two goals and seven loose balls in the Knighthawks 15-7 win over the New York Titans.

San Jose's Rhys Duch was named Rookie of the Week. Duch scored three goals and four assists, and scooped seven loose balls in the Stealth's 14-9 win over Colorado on Saturday.

The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league's 12 teams.
