RECAP OF TRADE DEADLINE MOVES
Dietrich to Toronto highlights final day of trades
03/17/2009
The Edmonton Rush and Toronto Rock managed to strike a deal right before Tuesday's trade deadline, with goaltender Steve Dietrich being traded to Toronto. In exchange for the veteran netminder, the Rush will receive Toronto's second round pick in the 2009 Entry Draft. Dietrich compiled a 14.00 Goals Against Average and a Save Percentage of 74.2% this year while going 1-4 as a member of the Rush.Dietrich, playing in his 17th NLL season, was the league's MVP in 2006 while playing for the Buffalo Bandits.
It was a busy day for Edmonton Rush General Manager & Head Coach Bob Hamley. Following that trade, the Rush acquired a first-round pick in the 2009 NLL Entry Draft from the San Jose Stealth in exchange for defenseman Andrew Biers. "The 2009 draft is a deep one and it is a big benefit for us to stockpile some additional picks," noted Hamley.
Biers was acquired by the Rush during the 2008 NLL Entry Draft when Edmonton swapped positions in the first round with the Minnesota Swarm. He appeared in only two games for the Rush and did not register a point. Biers scooped up four loose balls and was 19-for-44 in faceoffs.
The Minnesota Swarm traded forward Keith Cromwell to the New York Titans for a conditional second round selection in the 2009 Entry Draft. Cromwell scored ten points in four games for the Swarm last season; he did not play a game for Minnesota this season.
The Titans were also involved in the final trade of the day, trading forward Jamie Rooney to the Rochester Knighthawks in exchange for defenseman Bill Greer. Rooney has played in ten games for New York this season, scoring seven goals and seven assists. Greer has played in eight games for Rochester this season, picking up 55 loose balls and tallying two assists.
