Tavares, Ken Montour, Rabil and Crompton also honored

03/25/2009

Toronto Rock goaltender Bob Watson has been chosen as winner the Overall Player of the Week Award for his efforts this past weekend. Watson made 38 saves as Toronto defeated Rochester 16-10, winning a crucial game against a team they are trying to catch up to in the East Division standings.

John Tavares was named Offensive Player of the Week. The Bandits forward scored four goals and added three assists as Buffalo defeated Portland, 14-4, to get back into the win column after back-to-back losses.

Tavares wasn't the only Bandits player to be honored this week, as goaltender Ken Montour was named Defensive Player of the Week. The Buffalo goaltender stopped 34 out of the 38 Portland shots on net in the Bandits' 14-4 win over the LumberJax. The four goals allowed tied the Bandits' franchise record for fewest goals allowed to an opponent in a single game.

Paul Rabil was named Transition Player of the Week. The rookie out of Johns Hopkins scored two goals, assisted on the game-winning goal and picked up seven loose balls as the San Jose Stealth defeated the Edmonton Rush 11-10. The win moved San Jose (4-7) to within one game of fourth place and the final playoff spot in the West Division.

Colorado Mammoth forward Tyler Crompton was named Rookie of the Week. In a pair of games this past weekend, Crompton scored three goals, tallied two assists and picked up three loose balls.

The Player of the Week Awards are chosen by a vote of Head Coaches and General Managers of the league's twelve member clubs.
