Colorado defeats Edmonton 10-9 to clinch final spot in West

The Colorado Mammoth defeated the Edmonton Rush 10-9 on Friday night at Pepsi Center. With the win, the Mammoth clinched the final playoff berth in the West Division.As expected, it was a close game throughout. Edmonton took a 2-1 lead in the first quarter on goals by Jimmy Quinlan and Andy Secore.
In the second quarter, Secore scored two early goals to give the Rush a 4-1 lead. The Mammoth responded with goals by Chris Gill, Brian Langtry and Tyler Crompton to tie the score at 4-4. The score was tied 5-5 at halftime.
It was a tight defensive game throughout. In the third quarter, the only score was by Edmonton (Secore) to make the score 6-5 Edmonton entering the fourth quarter.
With a playoff berth hanging in the balance, Gavin Prout and Jamie Shewchuk each scored twice for the Mammoth, as they outscored Edmonton 5-3 in the fourth en route to a 10-9 victory.
Colorado clinches the fourth and final seed in the West Division. The Mammoth will play at Calgary in a Divisional Semifinal game on Sunday, May 3rd at 5pm ET.
With the loss, Edmonton is eliminated from playoff contention.
