KILGOUR THREE WINS SHY OF BARTLEY
Bandits head coach has 90 career regular season wins
05/28/2009
After running his career regular season wins total to 90 by adding 10 more wins this past season, Buffalo Bandits head coach Darris Kilgour is now only three games behind coaching legend Les Bartley (93 wins) for the most wins in league history. Kilgour has never won less than eight games in a season, a number that he failed to surpass in a season only once (2004). He completed his eighth campaign on the bench in 2009.In amassing 90 career wins, Kilgour jumped Paul Day into second place on the All-Time Coaching Wins list. Chris Hall, who took over the head coaching duties for the San Jose Stealth after ten games as the team's offensive coach, entered the season in sixth place and remained there after going 4-2 with the Stealth to increase his career wins total to 50. Bob Hamley, who was recently dismissed as head coach of the Edmonton Rush, moved into a tie with Hall by adding five more wins to his resume this season.
The top ten list welcomed one new member this year, with Ed Comeau running his career total to 43 wins after a 10-6 campaign with the East Division Champion New York Titans. Comeau had entered the season in 11th place all-time and now sits in a ninth-place tie with Jamie Batley, who compiled a 5-8 record in 13 games with the Toronto Rock, with 43 career wins.
As mentioned, Bartley leads the all-time list with a 93-38 career regular season record. Bartley, who succumbed to colon cancer in May of 2005, was inducted to the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame as a member of the Inaugural Class on February 23, 2006. The National Lacrosse League Head Coach of the Year Award has been named the Les Bartley Award for Head Coach of the Year in his honor.
