NLL GIRL OF THE WEEK - CORINA

Knightingales Dance Team Director also works for architectural firm

06/09/2009

Corina, this week's Girl of the Week, has been dancing for as long as she can remember. Citing her grandmother, aunt and uncle as huge influences, she started dancing for local studios in her youth and continued doing so for the cheerleading teams on the Pop Warner and high school levels.

Just two years after joining the Rochester Knightingales in 2000, Corina turned her "out" in life (as she calls it) into much more when she was named the dance team director in Rochester. Since acquiring that title, Corina has greatly enjoyed her time with the team and has fully embraced the "talented, professional and outgoing women who provide superior entertainment" on the Knightingales squad.

"There is so much involved and so many rewards; that is probably one reason I come back every year," said Corina. "The Knightingales spend so much time preparing together that it is almost impossible to not become attached to these women. My closest friends were girls who auditioned for me and now I think of them as family."

Equipped with a Bachelor's of Science in Interior Design and a Mechanical Technology Associate's Degree, Corina works on school, residential, corporate and hospitality projects as a designer when she's not leading the Knightingales. She specializes in interior design but also works on interior architecture.

"My job is not just about picking colors. It's about designing to enhance the architecture where it is not only aesthetically beautiful, but functional as well."

Corina admits that she had no idea what to expect when she first took to the turf in 2000, but she has grown to love the product on the field. She singles out a couple Knighthawks as being extremely impressive in their trade, and even gives a shout-out to the fans.

"I have seen amazing players and watching them grow with the team has been a great experience. I would have to say that John Grant and Gary Gait are my favorite players," said Corina. "I just can't believe some of the plays these guys make... and the fans are dedicated, especially the KREW. Shout-out to Knabber and Jen!"

On a personal level, Corina has a hard time choosing a favorite musician but mentions that Neil Diamond, Pearl Jam and Frank Sinatra currently make up her car audio collection. As far as movies go, she would much rather watch an action movie than a sappy love flick.

"I just don't see a point to movies that make me cry," she says.

Most of all, Corina says she is extremely proud of her family and friends - to whom she gives a special shout-out to. Her perfect day is "a day with my husband and family complete with grilling, playing cards, random games that the brothers invent and relaxing!"
