09/07/2009
Copy by Peter Flynn for NLL.comMax Seibald, the 6-1 200 pound midfielder out of Cornell University, hopes to continue the trend of NCAA All-Americans finding success in the National Lacrosse League by following in the footsteps of players like Kevin Buchanan, Paul Rabil, and Stephen Peyser. All were named to the NLL All-Rookie Team in 2009.
Max Seibald was known as a "do it all" midfielder at Cornell because of his all around lacrosse talent. During Seibald's lacrosse career at Cornell he racked up phenomenal statistics and took home numerous awards. During Seibald's freshman season he was named Ivy League rookie of the year and was a second team All-American. In 2007 Seibald showed his clutch abilities by forcing a turnover against Albany in the NCAA quarter finals that set up a game winning goal. In 2007 Seibald was named a USILA All-American. In 2008 Seibald scored 25 goals including two game winners and seven man up tallies for 31 points in 14 games. Siebald also added 33 groundballs and went 12-23 on face-offs.
In 2009 Seibald had his best lacrosse year to top off an already impressive career. He scored 28 goals and was third on his team in points with 38. He notched two game winning goals and five man up goals. Seibald had 46 ground balls and went 19-40 on face-offs. He scored 141 points during his career the most ever by a Cornell midfielder. Siebald received first team All-American honors for the third time in a row. Max won the 2009 Tewaarton Trophy, the highest college lacrosse honor and added the USILA Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award, the USILA Lt. Donald MacLaughlin Jr., and the Lowes Senior Class Award to his award collection.
Seibald has also expressed his commitment to the NLL. In an article written by Inside Lacrosse's Steve Kojima Seibald was quoted as saying, "I do plan on entering into the NLL draft at this point, and I am excited to have the opportunity to play indoor and learn the game as I go. Seibald sees himself playing a similar role to the Washington Stealth's Paul Rabil. In that same article Seibald said, "I am interested to give it a go because I love playing lacrosse and I have also heard from several players, one in particular, Paul Rabil, who really has had a blast doing it," and "I think I am very similar to Paul in many ways and although he had a slow start to his NLL career, he has clearly grown as a box player and found his role for his team." "I know that if I do play there will be a learning and growth process for me, but hopefully I can hit the ground running like Paul, and have an impact on whatever team drafts me."
Seibald has a great chance of being on of the top picks in this year's entry draft. The 2009 NLL Draft is to be held September 9th at the HSBC arena in Buffalo, New York Rochester currently holds the first two picks in the draft.
