The Calgary Roughnecks have acquired Rob Van Beek from the Philadelphia Wings. Van Beek, who has missed only one game in the past four seasons, will compete for a spot with the defending champions.

Wings acquire 2010 draft pick in exchange for transition player

The Philadelphia Wings and Calgary Roughnecks completed a trade on Friday, sending transition player Rob Van Beek to Calgary in exchange for a 2010 second round draft pick. Van Beek played in all 16 games for the Wings last season. He has played his all five of his NLL seasons in Philadelphia, only missing one game in the past four seasons."He is a blood and guts character guy who possesses the intangibles we look for in a player," said Roughnecks Head Coach Dave Pym. "Our camp just became that much more competitive."
Van Beek tallied 14 points, including four goals and 10 assists in 16 games last season. In that time, the 26-year-old collected 83 loose balls and 11 penalty minutes.
Van Beek was originally drafted by the Wings in the first round (5th overall) in the 2004 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.
In 72 career games, Van Beek has notched 22 goals, 59 assists for 81 points. In that time, he has also collected 390 loose balls and 180 penalty minutes.
The Wings press release announcing the trade included the following quote from Van Beek: "I love Philly. The memories and friends will last me forever. Thanks to my Wings teammates, coaches and staff; and to all the friends I have made. Every lacrosse player should experience playing for the Wings during their careers; I consider myself lucky. I will miss you all dearly and look forward to seeing you again but in different colors. Good luck in 2010."
