KNIGHTHAWKS SIGN SMITH AND DITZELL
Pair of young defenders each sign three-year contracts

The Rochester Knighthawks have signed a pair of promising young defensemen to multi-year contracts. Scott Ditzell and Sid Smith, who was the first overall draft pick in 2009, have each signed three year contracts. Both will be part of the team's defensive core for seasons to come.Smith, 23, who was the first overall pick in the 2009 NLL Entry Draft, signed a four-year deal. The Syracuse University defenseman has won back-to-back NCAA titles (2008-09) with the Orange. "Sid Smith will make our defense stronger and makes everyone around him better. We also look for Sid to contribute offensively and score a few goals," said Styres.
Ditzell, 26, enters his fourth season in the National Lacrosse League and makes his return to Rochester for the first time since the 2008 season. The defenseman, who signed a three-year deal, began his career with the Knighthawks in 2006. He was a key member of the 2007 Knighthawks championship team. "We are all excited about Scott signing a multi-year deal. He is in fantastic shape and combines strength and ability," said Styres. "He is a team player that demands perfection."
He will make his return to the floor on Saturday, January 9th against the Buffalo Bandits at 8:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.
