IL Indoor's Brian Shanahan has released his National Lacrosse League Power Rankings after Week #12 of the 2013 NLL regular season. After eight straight weeks at the top, the Toronto Rock (8-4) were passed by the surging Edmonton Rush (8-5), who came out of the weekend on a five-game winning streak after two convincing road wins over Buffalo and Toronto.
"There were only three games in the NLL this weekend and it was a very good weekend for the two teams from Alberta," Shanahan writes. "The Calgary Roughnecks avenged an early season 13-12 overtime loss to the Colorado Mammoth by defeating them 12-11 in OT after trailing for most of the game. The other Alberta team, the red hot Edmonton Rush steam rolled over the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday and the Toronto Rock on Sunday by a combined score of 31-19."
1) Edmonton Rush (8-5) (+1)
"The Rush have now won five straight and even though they still have to prove they can win at home, there is no doubt that Edmonton is the top team in the NLL right now. The Rush have next weekend off but will host Colorado the following week."
2) Toronto Rock (8-4) (-1)
"Toronto got a huge wakeup call as they were schooled by the Edmonton Rush 17-12. Toronto was outshot 22-8 in the first quarter and were down by as much as 9-2 early in the second quarter. Even though the Rock traded goals with the Edmonton Rush for the rest of the game they were never able to muster a sustained run. Toronto gave up way far too many transition opportunities and neither Rock goalie (Nick Rose and Zak Boychuk) had any success on Edmonton’s break away opportunities."
