NLL Commissioner George Daniel presented Edmonton Rush forward Mark Matthews with the 2013 NLL Moe's Southwest Grill Rookie of the Year award during the NLL Fan Fest and Tailgate Party at the NCAA Championships in Philadelphia on Saturday.

National Lacrosse League Commissioner George Daniel presented Edmonton Rush forward Mark Matthews with the 2013 Moe's Southwest Grill Rookie of the Year award during the NLL Fan Fest and Tailgate Party on Saturday at XFINITY Live! for the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa.

Matthews won the award earlier this month after ranking first among rookies and fifth in the league with a team-high 38 goals, third-most by an NLL rookie in history, while scoring in all 16 games played in 2013. The Oshawa, Ont. native led all rookies, finished second on the Rush and 15th in the league with 69 points (38+31) and was also third among rookies with 31 assists and ninth with 47 loose balls.

Edmonton's first overall pick of the 2012 NLL Entry Draft, Matthews played collegiately at Denver University where he holds the school record for career points (216) and goals (155).

The fourth-ranked Pioneers lost to top-seeded Syracuse University by a score of 9-8 on Saturday in the Division I Semifinals. The Orange will play the seventh-ranked Duke Blue Devils, who defeated Cornell University with a 16-14 win, for the NCAA Championship on Monday at 1 p.m. ET live on ESPN.
