D Rock Dealt To Buffalo

The Ottawa Rebel traded goaltender Derek Collins (left), Ottawa's third round pick in the 2001-02 draft and a player to be named later to the Buffalo Bandits, in exchange for holdout goaltender Matt Disher earlier today.

Collins, the 6-0, 200-pound netminder from Scarborough, Ontario has appeared in 10 games for the Rebel this season, posting a 15.50 goals-against average. In 41 regular season NLL games, Collins has a career record of 11-25, with a 15.35 goals-against average.

" We're very pleased to acquire a goaltender with Derek's ability," said Bandits General Manager Kurt Silcott. " Derek is very excited to play for a team that is in the middle of the playoff hunt and I'm certain that this challenge will bring his game to a new level," Silcott added.

This will be Collins' fourth team in the MILL/NLL. Collins previously played for the Syracuse Smash, Baltimore Thunder and Rochester Knighthawks. Collins was Rochester's first round draft choice in the 1996 MILL Draft.

Disher, the 6-3, 222-pound goaltender from Haggersville, Ontario posted a 6-3 record for Buffalo during the 2000 season. In two seasons with Buffalo, Disher compiled a 7-8 record, with a 15.74 goals-against average.

"Matt's a good goalie who wants to play," said Rebel Head Coach Mark Vitarelli. "This trade makes an impact statement to our team and our fans. We have not given up on this season."
