Matchup For The Nll Champion's Cup

The Toronto Rock (11-3, First Place) will host the Philadelphia Wings (10-4, Second Place) in the National Lacrosse League Championship Game, to be played at Toronto's Air Canada Centre on the weekend of April 28th-29th. The League expects to announce the date and time of the Championship Game on Monday.

The Rock advanced to the Championship Game by defeating the Washington Power (9-5, Fourth Place) in a semi-final matchup on Saturday, April 21st at Toronto's Air Canada Centre. In a back-and forth battle, Toronto defeated the Power 10-9 in front of a home crowd of 15,831. The game was also televised nationally across Canada on CTV Sportsnet. Toronto forward Kim Squire scored the game-winning goal with 1:18 remaining in the fourth quarter, breaking a 9-9 tie.

The Philadelphia Wings advanced to the Championship Game by defeating the Rochester Knighthawks (10-4, Third Place) in a semi-final matchup on Friday, April 20th at Philadelphia' First Union Center. Philadelphia Wings forward Tom Marechek scored the game-winning goal with 1:29 remaining in the fourth quarter to give Philadelphia a 12-11 victory, in front of a home crowd of 10,259. The game was broadcast live on Empire Sports Network in the United States, and Bell ExpressVu in Canada.

The Toronto Rock clinched home floor advantage throughout the playoffs by winning the 2000-2001 NLL Regular Season (11-3).

PHILADELPHIA vs. TORONTO-CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
The Toronto Rock have won two consecutive NLL Championships (1999 & 2000), giving them two titles in the three-year history of the franchise. Now in their fourth season, the Rock will attempt to win their third NLL Championship.

The Philadelphia Wings are competing in their 15th season, and have won five Championships. The Wings won the Championship in 1989, 1990, 1994, 1995 and 1998.

The two teams have met twice in the playoffs, both times in the semi-finals, in 1999 and 2000. Toronto beat Philadelphia in both contests.
