Resch Named Nll's Top Coach

Philadelphia Wings Head Coach Tony Resch has been named the 2000-2001 NLL Coach of the Year.

Resch, the Roxborough, Pennsylvania native has brought his Philadelphia Wings back into the NLL spotlight once again. Resch and his Wings defeated the Rochester Knighthawks 12-11 in the NLL Champion's Cup Semi-Finals to earn the right to play the Toronto Rock for the Champion's Cup.

In his sixth season, Resch compiled his most successful season as Wings Head Coach, leading his squad to a 10-4 regular season record. Resch has compiled a 59-27 record over his coaching career. Resch holds the franchise's record for the highest all-time winning percentage with a .686.

"Tony is not only a great coach, but more importantly he is a great person," said Wings President and Co-Owner Russ Cline. "He rises to every challenge on and off the field."

Heading into the 2001 Champion's Cup Finals, Resch has a 9-4 lifetime record in the post-season for Philadelphia. Under Resch's leadership, the Wings have celebrated three World Championships (1994,1995 and 1998).

As a defensive specialist, Resch, celebrated many great moments. As a member of the Wings, Resch played six seasons from1988-1993, collecting 22 points on 12 goals and 10 assists. (12 10=22). Resch was a two-time All-American at Yale University (1984-1985), and won a gold medal in Perth Australia as a member of Team USA in 1990 World Field Lacrosse Championships.

Other nominees for Coach of the Year were the Albany Attack's Terry Sanderson, the New York Saints' Sal LoCascio, the Ottawa Rebel's Mark Vitarelli, the Toronto Rock's Les Bartley and the Washington Power's Darris Kilgour.

The National Lacrosse League will announce this season's NLL Rookie of the Year on Wednesday, April 25, 2001.
