By National Lacrosse League

The National Lacrosse League has just completed two lotteries to determine selection order in the upcoming Expansion and Entry Drafts. The two lotteries each consisted of the blind drawing of three balls, each ball representing one of the League's three expansion teams, the Calgary Roughnecks, the New Jersey Storm and the Vancouver Ravens.

The first lottery determined the selection order for the Expansion Draft, to be held on June 15th. Both lotteries were executed by League Commissioner Jim Jennings, and witnessed by numerous League and team personnel. The Calgary ball was drawn first, followed by New Jersey and Vancouver.

Selection order for the Expansion Draft will be as follows:
1. Calgary Roughnecks
2. New Jersey Storm
3. Vancouver Ravens

The Expansion Draft will consist of nine rounds. Calgary's First Round Pick in the Expansion Draft goes to the Buffalo Bandits, to complete an earlier trade. New Jersey's First Round Pick in the Expansion Draft goes to the New York Saints as part of an earlier trade.

The Expansion Draft Lottery was immediately followed by the Entry Draft Lottery. Once again, three balls representing the three expansion teams were drawn. The drawing would determine spots one through three. The other nine clubs had their selection spots based on reverse order of regular and post season finish.

Once again, the Calgary ball was drawn first, followed by New Jersey and Vancouver.

Selection order will be as follows for the 2001 NLL Entry Draft, to be held the weekend of August 24-26:
1. Calgary Roughnecks
2. New Jersey Storm
3. Vancouver Ravens
4. Ottawa Rebel
5. Columbus Landsharks
6. Albany Attack
7. New York Saints
8. Buffalo Bandits
9. Washington Power
10. Rochester Knighthawks
11. Toronto Rock
12. Philadelphia Wings

The Entry Draft will consist of nine rounds. New Jersey's First Round Pick in the Entry Draft goes to the New York Saints, to complete an earlier trade.

On being selected first in both Lotteries, Calgary Roughnecks Head Coach & General Manager Kevin Melnyk said, "We could not be more excited. Our draft positioning will greatly help us in our quest to put a quality team on the floor from day one. We hope today is a great omen for the future of the Roughnecks franchise."
