The Washington Power, of the National Lacrosse League, announced today that they are going to be the anchor tenant for Washington Sports and Entertainment's re-opened Capital Centre, formerly known as the USAir Arena.
The Power are moving from the MCI Center where they played their inaugural season in Washington in 2000-2001 to the Capital Centre for the upcoming 2001-2002 season. The Power will also have team offices in the Cap Centre.
"We are excited to join Washington Sports and Entertainment in the re-opening of the Capital Centre," stated Steve Govett, General Manager and Executive
Vice President of the Washington Power. "The opportunity to play our home games in a venue that is such tremendous fixture in Washington's professional
sports scene is appealing for many reasons. We believe that this move will provide us with an opportunity to offer a great product to our fans with a drastically improved price, better schedule and game times, and the capacity to expand our game related events beyond the two hours the Power are on the
Govett added, "the Power has a new lease on life, as the National Lacrosse League grows stronger, this will allow us to take our place among the strongest of NLL franchises. The lacrosse fans of Washington filled this
building in the late 80s with the Washington Wave and we have every reason to believe that they will support us in 2002."
Along with the move to the Capital Centre, the Power have put together season ticket packages for the 2001 - 2002 season. The announcement of the Washington Power schedule for the 2001-2002 Season is anticipated in July. The eight game schedule will run from November to April.
