New Jersey Storm Signs Head Coach

The expansion New Jersey Storm today named Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Famer Jim Hinkson as the team's first Head Coach. Hinkson brings the Storm a lifetime of coaching experience in Canada and the United States and significant playing experience with the Philadelphia Wings, the Oshawa Green Gaels, and others.

He has either played or coached for ten Canadian National Championship teams. The 58-year old served as an Assistant Coach for the New York Saints of the National Lacrosse League in 2000 and currently mentors the Toronto Junior "A" Beaches Lacrosse team. In 1974, he played for Canada in the World Field Lacrosse Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

"Stepping into the National Lacrosse League with a new team is a great challenge. I think we can be very successful," Hinkson said, "Our team will be entertaining, fun to watch, and very aggressive."

The Whitby, Ontario resident is also the author of several well-respected
books on the subject of lacrosse including: "Box Lacrosse: The Fastest Game on Two Feet," "Lacrosse Fundamentals," "Lacrosse Team Strategies," and his latest "The Art of Team Coaching."

The New Jersey Storm begins play at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, NJ, in December 2001. New Jersey was granted an expansion franchise in the 15-year old National Lacrosse League this May. The team is owned by former New Jersey Nets NBA All-Star Jayson Williams and is managed by Positive Impact, a sports and entertainment management corporation.
