The Washington Power Signs Back Veteran Neil Doddridge

The Washington Power, of the National Lacrosse League, announced today that Neil Doddridge has signed on for the 2001 - 2002 season. Doddridge was identified as a non-restricted free agent at the end of last season and as such had the opportunity to entertain offers from other teams in the league in addition to the Washington Power.

"Neil was actively and aggressively pursued by other teams in the league. He is a valued member of the Power team and we are thrilled to have him back this season." stated Steve Govett, General Manager and Executive Vice President of the Washington Power. "We look forward to his continued defensive presence on the field."

Doddridge, a six-foot, 195 lb defensive player, graduated from Oswego, is originally from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada and currently resides in Vancouver.

Doddridge, who had six goals and ten assists this past season with the Power, has played eleven years in the league and was a member of the 1991 Champion Detroit Turbos as well as the 1996 Champion Buffalo Bandits.

Doddridge joined the Washington franchise in 2000 through a trade from Buffalo in exchange for a second round pick in the 2000 draft. Doddridge holds the record as a seven-time Mann Cup Champion in Canada, is first among current players and second in All-Time Penalty Minutes in the NLL. In addition to the National Lacrosse League, Doddridge currently plays in Canada during the summer for the Victoria Shamrocks in the Western Lacrosse Association.
