Adam Mueller, a former Philadelphia Wings Assistant Coach and player, was today named Head Coach of the defending National Lacrosse League Champion Wings, according to team General Manager Marty O'Neill. Mueller will work closely with the Wings General Manager and yet to be named assistant coaching staff on directing the team's offense and defensive efforts.

"Adam understands the Wings playing style and team philosophy, and has a solid outlook for the team's future," said O'Neill in making the announcement. "We will rely on Adam to continue the winning tradition of Wings lacrosse."

As the Wings Head Coach, Mueller will be responsible for orchestrating the offensive and defensive endeavors for the defending NLL Champions. He will also assist the General Manager in new player recruiting and scouting, as well as organizing the team's tryouts and training camp.

Mueller helped lead the Wings to their sixth NLL Championship last season as the offensive coordinator, working along with former eight-year head coach Tony Resch. As a player, Mueller was a ten-year veteran of indoor lacrosse who spent three seasons with the Wings, including the l998 NLL Championship team, as a player. During his playing career, Mueller amassed 122 points (51 goals and 71 assists) in 75 regular season games with Detroit (l990-94), Baltimore (l995-96) and the Wings (l997-99).

Mueller attended Michigan State. He currently resides with his wife Susan and two children, Addison and Autumn, in Cochranville, PA.

Mueller will participate in the NLL Entry Draft at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY, along with O'Neill. Fans and press will be able to view the first hour of the 2001 NLL Entry Draft via satellite beginning at 6 p.m. at coordinates C-Band T5C-23.

The Wings plan to name the assistant coaching staff within the next few weeks.

The Wings will raise their 2001 NLL Championship banner when they host division rivals the New York Saints in their 2001-02 regular season home opener at the First Union Center on Friday, January 18. The Wings will commence their 2001-02 season, the earliest in franchise history, when they travel to Albany to face the Attack at the Pepsi Arena on Saturday, December 1.
