The Rochester Knighthawks open their 2001 National Lacrosse League Training Camp on Saturday, October 27th at the Rochester Sports Garden.
The Knighthawks hit the floor for the first time on Saturday at the Sports Garden on East Henrietta Road. Day One of training camp runs from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Day Two is Sunday, October 28th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Knighthawks enter their eighth season of professional lacrosse and fifth season as a member of the NLL. Last year, the K-Hawks set a franchise record for wins in a season with 10. Rochester finished the season 10-4 and advanced to the postseason for the seventh consecutive year, but lost to the eventual champion Philadelphia Wings in the NLL Semifinals.
Rochester is a member of the newly formed Central Division, along with the Albany Attack, Buffalo Bandits, Columbus Landsharks and Montreal Express. The Knighthawks will also play a 16-game schedule as the NLL expanded to 13 teams in the off-season.
Rochester Knighthawks General Manager Jody Gage also announced today the signing of 2001 First Round Draft Pick Ted Jenner.
Jenner, a native of Victoria, B.C., played his college lacrosse at Division II Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa. As a Mercyhurst Laker, Jenner was 17th in Division II Iacrosse in goals per game (2.67). In 12 games, he registered 32 goals and 47 points. Jenner was selected in the first round (11th overall) by the Knighthawks.
Jenner also played with the Victoria Shamrocks of the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) this summer. With the Shamrocks, he registered 17 goals and 14 assists for 31 points in 15 games.
The Knighthawks open the 2001-02 season on November 24th at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial against the Albany Attack. The game is a 7:30 p.m. face-off. Tickets are available at the Knighthawks Office or by calling (716) 454-5335.
