In Prince George, British Columbia, both the Vancouver Ravens and Calgary Roughnecks competed in their first-ever NLL pre-season game on Friday evening with the Ravens edging out a 25-21 victory. The two teams faced off in the inaugural Northern Cup to benefit youth lacrosse programs and local firefighters in the Prince George area.

After a seven goal first quarter by both teams, the Ravens added nine goals in the second quarter and took a slight two-goal advantage into the locker room at 16-14. Despite an impressive second half performance by the Roughnecks it was Vancouver who held on for the 25-21 victory.

For the Roughnecks, it was forward Ben Prepchuk who lead his team with six goals and three assists on the evening while across the turf it was Jamey Bowen racking up five goals and four assists to help Vancouver claim victory.

Calgary goaltenders Derek Collins and Matt King each played one half in net while Vancouver net minders Darren Goundrey and Scott Wylie each saw action for one half of play as well.

The two teams will face off against one and other this Sunday at 2:00 pm at the new Greater Vernon Multiplex for the Okanagan Cup.
