The Vancouver Ravens recorded their first win of the 2001-2002 National Lacrosse League season with a 13-12 victory over the Toronto Rock in front of a NLL franchise record crowd for a home opener of 13,772.
The Ravens offense was ignited by forwards Jamey Bowen with seven points (four goals), Peter Morgan with six points (three goals), and Chris Gill, also with six points (one goal). Goaltender Dwight Maetche was player of the game with 41 saves, a majority of them outstanding.
Toronto was led by forward Colin Doyle with five points (five goals) and Steve Toll with five points (four goals). The Ravens' defense held the Rock's leading scorer, Dan Stroup, to just one goal (three points). Stroup punished the Raven's during the Rock's home opener with five goals.
With the win Vancouver improves to 1-2 on the season while Toronto drops to 1-1.
