The Calgary Roughnecks ran up a 6-0 first quarter lead, and went on to defeat the Ottawa Rebel 17-11 Sunday at the Corel Centre.

The Roughnecks wrapped up the win 6:22 into the third quarter, with the second of Ben Prepchuk's three goals.

Ottawa put themselves in the hole with a string of first-quarter penalties, leading to power play goals by Jason Wulder at 1:26 and 11:05, Rob Colville at 9:57 and Kaleb Toth at 10:35. John Kilbride and Adam Bysouth added even-strength tallies before Chris Konopliff put Ottawa on the board with 2:12 left in the period.

Although Konopliff came up with four of his game-high five goals before halftime, Ottawa never mounted a serious challenge.

Toth scored once in each quarter, and assisted on two of Prepchuk's tallies.

Wulder had a hat trick and two assists, while Kilbride and Chris Panos each scored two goals and assisted on two others.

Ottawa's Mike Benedict finished with two goals and three assists.

Matt King stopped 45 of 56 Ottawa shots to post the win. Rebel netminder Matt Disher turned away 51 of 68 Calgary attempts.
