Hat tricks by Colin Doyle and Mike Murray powered the Toronto Rock past the Ottawa Rebel 12-6 Friday in front of 14,169 at the Air Canada Centre.
Doyle and Blaine Manning stung Ottawa goalie Andrew Leyshon with goals at 1:38 and 1:55 of the opening period, and the Rock never relinquished the lead.
The Rebel managed only one goal, by Ryan Painter on a power play at 3:49 of the second quarter, before halftime. They held their own in the third stanza, with two tallies by Dan Marohl and singles by Jamie Roy, Painter and Mike Benedict, but managed only six shots and were shut out in the fourth.
Dan Stroup netted two goals for the Rock, and Kim Squire had a goal and three assists.
Benedict finished with four assists, in addition to his third-period goal, for the Rebel. Ottawa scoring leader Chris Konopliff sat out the game with a torn rib ligament.
Winning netminder Bob Watson made 30 saves. Leyshon, standing in for injured starter Matt Disher, snagged an impressive 60, as the Rebel were outshot 72-36.
