Derek Malawsky scored the winning goal at 12:28 of the third period, and the Rochester Knighthawks went on to defeat the Philadelphia Wings 15-10 Saturday in front of 7,864 at Blue Cross Arena.
The Knighthawks led 4-2 at the end of one quarter, and boosted the advantage to 8-3 with a pair of second-quarter tallies by Shawn Williams and single goals by Rodney Tapp and John Grant, Jr., who finished with a hat trick.
Rochester kept up the four-goal pace through period three, and held off a late Wings comeback with goals by Curt Malawsky, Grant and Bomberry in the fourth.
The Knighthawks defense kept Philadelphia at bay despite the absence of starting defender Regy Thorpe, out for at least three weeks with a broken left hand.
Jeff Ratcliffe and Kevin Finneran dominated the Wings offense, Ratcliffe with four goals and Finneran with three goals and three assists. Tom Marechek scored once, and collected four assists in the losing effort.
Pat O'Toole posted the win in goal with 49 saves. Philadelphia's Chris Sanderson stopped 42.
