KANATA, Ont.--Neal Powless's third goal of the game, at 4:38 of the fourth quarter, guaranteed the Columbus Landsharks their first win of the season, 15-11 over the Ottawa Rebel Friday at the Corel Centre.

Kasey Beirnes and Gewas Schindler also recorded hat tricks as the Landsharks boosted their record to 1-3.

The Rebel seized the early momentum with unanswered first-quarter goals by Dan Marohl at 4:00, Chris Konopliff at 4:49, Ryan Painter at 11:47 and Jaime Roy at 12:43. Schindler's first goal cut the Rebel lead to 4-2 before the intermission, and Powless and Beirnes scored to tie the score with 10:32 left in the second.

The Landsharks widened their lead with five third-period goals, but let the Rebel stay in the hunt by giving up power play goals to Steve Evans and Painter.

The Landsharks scored on six of their 11 fourth-quarter shots to put the game away.

Kyle Jamieson set up five Columbus goals, and Brent Rothfuss had a goal and three assists.

Roy scored three times for the Rebel, while Konopliff had two goals and seven assists.

Winning goalie Ken Montour stopped 42 of 53 Ottawa shots. Rebel netminder Andrew Leyshon lasted 53 minutes, making 37 saves. Matt Disher, who is still recovering from a back injury, stopped three in a seven-minute shift.
