(Ottawa, Ontario)- A winning record and 30 years of experience lands behind the bench with the appointment today of Lindsay Sanderson as the new head coach and general manager of the Ottawa Rebel Lacrosse team.

"Lindsay has that winning desire and drive we need in Ottawa," said Brad Watters on behalf of the team's ownership group. "He's got championships at all levels of lacrosse and we hope his next championship will be right here with the Rebel."

Sanderson comes to Ottawa from Montreal where he was assistant coach of the Montreal Express Lacrosse team. The Express currently have a record of 3-1 in the Central Division, compared to the Rebel's record of 1-4 in the Northern Division.

"This is a fantastic opportunity that represents my goal of coaching lacrosse at the highest levels possible," said Sanderson, who first started coaching lacrosse in 1970 and has coached at every level to date. "Ottawa is a city with a rich sport history and I won't let the Rebel or their fans down."

Sanderson will quickly be squaring off against his former team in a back-to-back match up. After playing the Attach in Albany January 19, Sanderson and the Rebel head to Montreal on January 25. Ottawa fans will get their first chance to see Sanderson and the Rebel in action when they meet up with the Express again in Ottawa on January 27.

"The season is young and there is a lot of lacrosse left for Ottawa fans to enjoy," said Watters. "With Lindsay at the helm, those games promise to be action-packed and set a new standard for professional lacrosse in Ottawa." The ownership group expects to announce other management additions in the next few days.

Yesterday. The Ottawa Rebel announced the firing of six members of its front office staff, including General Manager Johnny Mouradian and Head Coach Marty Cooper. The Rebel are off to a 1-4 start this season, most recently suffering a 15-11 loss at home to the Columbus Landsharks last week.

Also fired were Cooper's three assistant coaches; Bob Allan, Bob Keast and Keith McLeod, and Director of Communications Greg Hotte.

Tickets for the next home game between the Ottawa Rebel and the Montreal Express on Sunday January 27 are available at the Corel Centre box office.
