Jonas Derks scored the game winning goal at 9:09 of the fourth quarter to help the Saints claim a 21-18 victory over the Philadelphia Wings tonight at the Nassau Coliseum. With the win, their second straight, the team improves to 4-2 on the season, while the Wings drop to 1-3.
After being down 11-7 at halftime the Saints outscored the Wings 6-2 in the third quarter to knot the game at 13. In the fourth quarter they added seven more to capture the win.
The Saints, who were paced by forward Gavin Prout's six-point performance (4G 2A) also used the services of forward Jonas Derks who registered five-points (4G 1A).
Philadelphia were paced by forward Jeff Ratcliffe who scored five-goals and Tom Marechek, who tallied seven-points (4G 3A).
Philadelphia net minder Dallas Eliuk suffered the loss while across the turf New York goaltender Gord Nash recorded the win.
The two teams meet again next Friday night in Philadelphia at the First Union Center when the Wings open up their 2001-2002 home schedule
