Tavares Nets Bandits Ot Winner

CALGARY--John Tavares scored his fifth goal of the game in overtime to push the Buffalo Bandits past the Calgary Roughnecks 13-12 Friday in front of 8,721 at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

Tavares, who has 31 points and 17 goals in five appearances this season, scored twice to help the Bandits salvage a 4-4 tie through the first quarter, and competed a hat trick 35 seconds before halftime as the Bandits took a 9-7 lead into the locker room.

Tavares and Calgary's Ben Prepchuk traded third-quarter tallies, and the Roughnecks battled back to a fourth-quarter tie with goals by Jason Wulder at 1:18, Chris Panos at 2:37 and John Kilbride at 7:40. Buffalo's Ryan Powell and Calgary's Matt Green scored within a 1:23 span to create a 12-12 deadlock that lasted through the final 4:11 of regulation.

Tavares, who also recorded two assists, was the game's high scorer with seven points. Powell added two goals and three assists, and Chris Driscoll assisted on five Buffalo tallies.

Prepchuk paced the Roughnecks with three goals and one assist, while Panos scored two goals and assisted on three others.
