K Hawks Make It Six Straight

The Rochester Knighthawks scored a franchise record 24 goals in a 24-9 rout of the Central Division rival Columbus Landsharks (3-4) on Saturday night at The Blue Cross Arena. The win was the sixth straight for the Knighthawks, which tied a franchise record.

The victory also moved Rochester to 7-1, its best start in franchise history. The 15-goal margin of victory was the largest in team history and the 68 shots also set a team single-game record.

Shawn Williams led the K-Hawks with eight points (3 5) and John Grant registered seven points (2 5) enroute to Game MVP honors. D'Arcy Sweet also had his best offensive game as a Knighthawks, collecting seven points (3 4).

Rochester led 8-3 after the first quarter and 12-6 at half. The Knighthawks then outscored the Landsharks 12-3 over the final two quarters. At one point, from the third to fourth quarter, the K-Hawks strung together 11 straight goals.

Mark Steenhuis (2 3) and Gewas Schindler (3 2) led Columbus with five points each. Pat O'Toole picked up the win in goal, improving to 6-1 on the season.

The Knighthawks battle the Toronto Rock on Saturday, January 26 at 3:30 p.m. The game can be heard on WYSL 1040-AM and on the web at www.wysl1040.com. The game is also being televised on CNN/Sports Illustrated and on Sportsnet in Canada.
