Rock, Fans And Corporate Partners To Raise Money For Injured Lacrosse Player

Toronto, Ontario - The Toronto Rock along with the Ontario Lacrosse Association and six of their corporate sponsors has joined forces to show their support to Dustin Sanderson. Sanderson, a 15-year old lacrosse player from Orangeville, was playing in a lacrosse tournament in Brampton competing for the Ontario midget championship with Orangeville Northmen, when a hit changed his life.

During the third period of their game, Sanderson was checked awkwardly into the boards by a Kitchener player and was taken to the hospital with a severe neck fracture. The innocent hit left the 15-year old rising star paralyzed from the neck down.

The Toronto Rock Lacrosse club announced that they are supporting Dustin every step of the way. Currently, Dustin remains at the Sick Kids hospital in Toronto but plans to head home after this Sunday's game. Dustin is under going strenuous physical therapy, but the Rock along with the Sanderson family is pleased to announce that Dustin has taken three steps. During Dustin's daily therapy session Dustin took three steps with the aid of the therapist.

The Rock will donate $1.00 from every ticket sold for a home game on Sunday February 3, 2002 at 12:30 p.m. when Terry Sanderson, the uncle of Dustin and the head coach of the Montreal Express, come to town. Not only will the Rock donate $1.00 per ticket but a few major partners have agreed to support this worthwhile cause. These partners include Molson Canada, Via Rail, Sportsnet, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, TicketMaster and a few others to be determined. Rock associates Core Media, also stated that they would donate $1.00 per program purchased on February 3, 2002.

"This was a very unfortunate accident, the Toronto Rock support Dustin and his family. We wanted to show our support by creating funds that will help Dustin and his family get through these rough times. I would like to encourage all individuals and corporations to donate to this meaningful cause?any and everything counts?it's the right thing to do" said Brad Watters in regards to the Rock's contributions.

The family has set up a Trust Fund at the CIBC bank in the name of Phillip and Susan Sanderson in trust of Dustin Sanderson, the account number is as follows 70524951662.

"It's a tough time for Dustin and the family, there's not much you can say but we appreciate all the hard work the Toronto Rock is doing to help ease the situation?Dustin is a great kid and always will be" passionately spoke Terry Sanderson.
