Paul Gait Named Nll Player Of The Month For January 2002

(New York City)--The second Player of the Month Award for the 2001-2002 Season goes to Paul Gait of the Washington Power. The award covers games played from January 1st through January 31st, 2002.

In the five games the Power played during the period, Gait scored 20 goals and dished out 15 assists for a total of 35 points. Gait is averaging 7.33 points per game. As a result of his impressive play, Gait has helped the Power take hold of sole possession of first place in the Eastern Division with a record of 7-2. In addition, he has helped anchor the League's top power play team with a 78.6 percentage rate.

Gait, a native of Victoria, British Columbia, is playing in his 12th and final NLL season. In his storied career, Gait has won three Player of the Month awards, six Player of the Week honors, and ten All-Pro selections. The 6'2, 220-pound forward has been a member of three separate championship clubs during his career.

"It's very deserving for him to get this award", said Darris Kilgour, Head Coach of the Washington Power. "I only hope he can continue to play the way that he has been playing."

1/5 vs. Toronto 3 goals, 4 assists=7 points (W, 12-11)

1/13 at Columbus 4 goals, 0 assists=4 points (L, 15-19)

1/19 at Vancouver 2 goals, 4 assists=6 points (W, 17-12)

1/25 at New York 5 goals, 3 assists=8 points (W,17-12)*

1/26 vs. New York 6 goals, 4 assists= 10 points (W, 23-15)*
