(New York City)- Tom Mayenknecht, Governor and Co-Owner of the Vancouver Ravens Lacrosse Club, has been named NLL Executive of the Year.
Under Mayenknecht's leadership, the Vancouver Ravens had an outstanding first season of National Lacrosse League play, both on and off the field.
During their inaugural season, the Ravens were a huge hit in the province of British Columbia, flying high with an average attendance of more than 10,000 fans per game at Vancouver's General Motors Place, the third highest average in the League.
The Ravens were also popular with television viewers, scoring the highest average ratings of all NLL clubs on Rogers Sportsnet, the League's Canadian broadcast partner.
The Ravens posted a record of 10-6 in their inaugural season, making the playoffs as a wild card team.
Along with deputy governors Bob Smart and Paul Reinhart, Mayenknecht is one of three principal owners of Sportsworks Entertainment, the Ravens managing company.
"We have so much work to do as part of our three-year plan to establish the
Vancouver Ravens as a big part of the sports landscape in British Columbia, but
these are the added bonuses that give us encouragement that we're on the right
track," said Mayenknecht. "This Executive of the Year award is one that is shared with everyone in our organization and with the fans who made it all possible."
"Tom and the entire Ravens organazation have done a great job. They've gotten off to an incredible start," said League Commissioner Jim Jennings. "The vote of his peers on this award reflects that."
The League Awards are voted on by the Board of Governors and General Managers of the League's thirteen member clubs.
