(New York City)-Toronto Rock defenseman Pat Coyle has been selected as the 2001-2002 NLL Defensive Player of the Year, announced today.
In his sixth season, Coyle routinely shut down the opposition's forwards, while helping lead the Rock defense to a League-low 176 goals against.
The Toronto, Ontario native registered 16 points (4G, 12A) and finished third best in team loose balls with 109.
Coyle along with the rest of the Toronto Rock are set to appear in their fourth consecutive NLL Championship Game appearance this Saturday night against the Albany Attack at the Pepsi Arena with a start time of 8:15
The League Awards are voted on by the Board of Governors and General Managers of the League's thirteen member clubs.
