12/06/2002, 3:43pm EST
By National Lacrosse League

The Buffalo Bandits announced today that they have signed Billy Dee Smith and Kerry Susheski. As is team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Susheski was acquired on July 15th in a trade with the New Jersey Storm. Buffalo sent Roy Colsey and the Bandits? second round draft choice in the 2002 NLL Entry Draft to the Storm in exchange for Kerry Susheski along with Jordan Guindon, and New Jersey?s first pick in the 2002 Entry Draft.

Susheski netted 11 goals and added 2 assists in 11 games his rookie season with the Storm. The 6'1?, 195 lb. forward plays for the New Westminster Salmonbellies in the WLA during the summer. Susheski scored 18 goals and 15 assists for 33 points in 15 games for the Bellies this summer.

?We expect a lot from Kerry this year. He proved himself last season with New Jersey as a goal scorer and we plan to round out the rest of his game. He?s an extremely hard worker and will do anything to help the team win,? said Bandits GM Kurt Silcott. ?Kerry also plays with a real nasty streak which will be helpful with our new physical style of lacrosse.?

Billy Dee Smith was Buffalo?s first round draft selection (3rd overall) in the 2002 NLL Entry Draft. The draft choice used to select Smith was acquired in the Susheski trade.

Smith is a St. Catharines, Ontario native who played Jr. A lacrosse for the St. Catharines Athletics during the summer. In 19 games Smith scored 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points. The 6?3?, 205-pound forward also played lacrosse for the Niagara Raiders.

?Billy Dee is a tremendous talent,? said Silcott. ?His speed and work ethic are among the top on this team. We expect him to do quite well at this level once he has had the proper time to adjust to the talent around him. He is still very young and as such we will give him limited responsibilities and add more and more as the season progresses.?

Buffalo will continue training camp at the Lakemount Sportsplex in Grimsby, Ontario. The team practices every Tuesday at 6:30 PM, every Saturday at 8:00 PM and every Sunday at 8:00 AM.

The Bandits will open the season on January 4 against the Albany Attack. Face off is set for 7:00 PM. Season tickets for the Bandits are on sale now at the HSBC Arena. Please call (716) 855-4444 ext. 82 to get your seats today.
