The Columbus Landsharks defeated the New York Saints, 15-10, in the season opener on Friday at Nationwide Arena. Landsharks draft pick John Harasym scored the game-winner, at 13:30 of the 3rd quarter to give Columbus the win.
The Landsharks led for most of the game, and took a 7-4 lead into the half.
Kyle Arbuckle led Columbus with 3 goals and an assist, and Bill Greer scored a hat-trick as well. Pat Maddalena and Dan Dawson rounded out the 'Sharks scoring leaders, each with two goals and an assist.
Despite the loss, Rusty Kruger played well, scoring three goals and two assists for the Saints. Chris Driscoll and Dan Paccione also played well, with a goal and three assists, and two goals and an assist, respectively. Gee Nash recorded 42 saves, and allowed 15 goals.
New York hopes to recover with two home games next weekend, against the Albany Attack (0-1) on Thursday, at 7:00 PM, and Ottawa Rebel (0-0) on Saturday, at 7:30 PM, both at the Nassau Coliseum. Columbus hosts Ottawa next Friday at Nationwide Arena, at 7:30 PM, and then travels to New Jersey on Saturday to take on the Storm (0-0).
