Newcomer Leads Ravens Over Wings

The Vancouver Ravens began their second season in style with a 14-10 victory over the Philadelphia Wings in front of 10,277 at General Motors Place.

The Wings opened the game strongly, scoring three times before the Ravens could answer. The Ravens bounced back strongly, scoring four unanswered goals to lead 4-3. Philadelphia struck back, before newly acquired Dan Stroup netted his first goal as a Raven to give them a 5-4 lead. The game was tied 5-5 at

The third period saw a scoring frenzy for the Ravens, netting seven goals to Philadelphia's two, building a strong lead that saw them enjoy a three goal lead going into the fourth quarter. The final period was relatively quiet, with only three goals being scored, Stroup celebrating his Ravens debut by scoring the game-winning goal.

Cam Sedgwick was outstanding for the Ravens, scoring seven points (4G, 3A) in a performance that saw him named Game MVP. Stroup was impressive in his Ravens debut with six points (3G, 3A), while Mike Law had five points (5A). In goal, Dwight Maetche recorded the win for the Ravens, stopping 32 from 42 shots.

Tom Marechek was a top performer for Philadelphia, producing six points (2G, 4A). Also featuring for the Wings was Paul Cantabene, with six points (1G, 5A). After a strong first quarter in which he allowed only one goal on 14 shots, Dallas Eliuk struggled against a strong Ravens offence, allowing 13 goals in the final three quarters.
