New Jersey Storm Down Saints, 19 9

The home standing New Jersey Storm (2-1) defeated division rival the New York Saints by the score of 19-9 tonight in a National Lacrosse League (NLL) contest at the Continental Airlines Arena in their largest margin of victory in team history.

The Storm, who will travel to Calgary on Sunday for a 3:30 p.m. matinee with the Roughnecks remain in second place in the Eastern Division with the win.

Leading this victorious performance for Head Coach Jim Brady?s Storm was Game MVP Scott Stewart with seven points (5G, 2A).

The Saints (0-4) were headlined by the efforts of forward Chris Driscoll with three goals.

Storm goaltender Derek General notched the win with 27 saves to even out his record at (1-1) while New York netminder Gee Nash turned away 12 shots before being pulled in favor of Phil Wetherup after one half of play. Wetherup turned away 23 shots.

The two clubs will meet once again in the season series finale on April 12, 2002 at the Nassau Coliseum.

Notes: Tonight?s game mark a number of firsts for Storm forward Mark Morley, newly acquired net minder Chris Sanderson and defensemen Dan Leidl and Spencer Wright, all of whom saw their first NLL action as members of New Jersey.
