The Rochester Knighthawks won the first of a home-and-home series against the Vancouver Ravens, 18-11, in front of 8,156 fans at GM Place. John Grant (4g, 3a) led Rochester, while Cory Bomberry (3g, 4a) and Shawn Williams (2g, 5a) matched his seven point night. Chris Schiller (3g, 1a) also recorded his first career hat-trick, while Derek Malawsky (1g, 4a) had a big night as well.

The Ravens started strongly with a Dan Stroup goal at 2:23 of the first quarter. This was to be the only lead in the game for the Ravens, as Rochester piled on the points, scoring five unanswered goals to lead 6-2 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw a more balanced game, with each team scoring four goals. At the break, the Knighthawks led the Ravens 10 - 6.

Vancouver controlled most of the play in the third quarter, outshooting the Knighthawks 16 - 9. However, they were unable to convert the pressure into points, scoring only one goal in the quarter. Leading into the final stanza, Rochester led 12 - 7. The final quarter saw Rochester resume their attack on Vancouver's net, outscoring Vancouver 6 - 4, for a final score of 18 - 11 in Rochester's favour.

Peter Morgan (3G, 1A), Chris Gill (2G, 2A), Dan Stroup (1G, 3A), and Cam Sedgwick (1G, 3A) led the Ravens, each scoring four points.

Game MVP John Grant, Jr. was in dominant form scoring seven points (4G, 3A) while Pat Campbell was outstanding in goal for the Knighthawks, making 42 saves on 53 shots.

The Knighthawks and Ravens meet again on Saturday, January 18th at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester (7:35 PM).
